About
The Certificate in Artificial Intelligence and Digital Law was established to advance and promote study of the relationship between data, law, and society at the University of Hong Kong. Tailored for our LLB students, this certificate recognizes those who complete a specialized set of courses in AI and digital law and demonstrate both passion and expertise in these emerging areas.

Certificate Requirements
1) Coursework Requirement: Pass at least three of the following courses with an average GPA of 3.5 or above across the best three courses:
Courses offered in 2025-26:
- Advanced Seminar in Law and Technology (LLAW3151)
- AI and Private Law (LLAW3294)
- Competition Law in the Digital Economy (LLAW3236)
- Computing for Lawyers: Automation and Prediction (LLAW3301)
- Law, Innovation, Technology, Entrepreneurship: Tech Startup Law (LLAW3254)
- Privacy and Data Protection (LLAW3075)
- Topics in Technology Law (LLAW3113)
(A course offered by another Faculty within HKU may also count towards this requirement with approval.)
2) Writing Requirement: Submit an essay of approximately 8,000 words on a current development in artificial intelligence or digital law, fulfilled through:
- Guided Research (LLAW 3203) or LLAW 3242 for LLB (HKU)-UCL students
- Or a special arrangement with the Centre
Any Fees?
This certificate is awarded at no extra cost. Simply fulfill the coursework and writing requirements to qualify. Certificates will be presented at a special ceremony following Congregation.
