With the advances in technology, bullying occurs not only in the real world but also in the digital world. Cyberbullying refers to situations in which a person is harassed or bullied by others through the use of electronic technology. This social problem has been found to be prevalent among the youth worldwide. Of pertinence to Hong Kong is the problem of doxing, that is ‘uncovering’ through exposing others’ personal data by unknown netizens to embarrass or harass the victims.

This Conference presents findings of the attitudes of more than 2,000 high school students on personal data exposure. It brings together local and international scholars, Privacy Commissioner, social media provider, social workers and the youth to engage in an interdisciplinary dialogue. The presenters exchange and share their knowledge and experience on various aspects of cyberbullying. The Conference will provide a platform to discuss cyberbullying in Hong Kong and how Hong Kong should address the problem through different measures, including legal and regulatory reforms.

After the conference, Professor Anne Cheung and others were interviewed on Cyberbullying in Hong Kong (RTHK Radio).  RTHK Recording clip: http://www.rthk.hk/radio/radio3/programme/backchat/episode/525027.  More details are available from the HKU Legal Scholarship blog: http://researchblog.law.hku.hk/2018/09/anne-cheung-interviewed-on.html.
